Table Transporting

A few weeks ago we were taking a break in Yorkshire, and we found a table we liked in an amazing shop Stone Dam Furniture, Halifax. We bought the table immediately, because we have been looking for many months without finding one we liked.

We picked up the table and popped it into the car on the journey home. It sat upright against the back seats, and our luggage stopped it moving.





It struck me that all the other small hatches on the market would have a problem with carrying the table. The back seat base cushions in the Myvi pull forward to the floor, allowing the rear seat upright cushions to take up their space creating a continuous flat low load area; unfortunately, most cars just rest the seat uprights on the bases, such as the Toyota Yaris giving reduced hight and an uneven load space:

Horse Manure for the Allotment

Last year we took over an allotment that had not been worked for many years, the soil was hard and compacted, and weeds ruled. In August we covered a small area with horse manure, this improved the soil quality and made it easier to pull long roots. Because clearing the ground for planting this year was so difficult we decided to cover a third of the allotment with horse manure, and we will plant in compost plugs dug into it.

A local riding school has a pile of horse manure which they are pleased to have removed. For the last three weeks I have been collecting manure each night on the way home from work. Fortunately, I have four large boxes which fit beautifully into FTP allowing clean transportation. I am just pleased to have the large flat load space, and the low plastic covered boot lip.







Most of the pile is now spread on our allotment!

Spring Is Coming - Preparing For Winter.

As winter passes, and spring arrives, it is necessary to prepare for the next winter. FTP has been busy collecting wood, ready to cut and season for next winters fuel. Deece says it has been hard work for her shoulders too!

1. Carrying Big Loads: 5 Foot Radiators

To us a car is a utility item, and therefore it has to be able carry both people and objects well. When FTP was about a week old I was criticised at work for putting cherry tree trunks into a new car! FTP was partly selected because of the useful large flat area with the seats down.

Recently we took all the radiators out of the house, and I was surprised that I was able to get 5 foot radiators into the car - front seat forward / tilted, and was able to get to the recycling centre with radiators + other junk without any problems:



There was one six foot radiator which would not quite fit in. The day after taking the radiators to the recycling centre, travelers came around and knocked onto the door for the big radiator!
